t’s Day 3 of #VolunteerWeek, and we’re back with another heartwarming volunteer story from Hospice Georgian Triangle. These individuals make our community a better place by providing compassionate care and support. Let’s dive into today’s story and celebrate their dedication!
Marcia Hickey on why she volunteers:
“My name is Marcia Hickey.
My husband and I called Collingwood our full time home starting in 2015. Like many other families, we started out as weekenders, seeking respite in this little piece of heaven.
Prior to my full time move to Collingwood, I decided to return to university, and I obtained a Master in Theology, with a focus on community service applications.
After settling into life in Collingwood, I decided to pursue volunteer work in the community. I wanted to apply the ‘tools’ in my new toolbox which ultimately led me to Campbell House. There is so much need in our community. Entering into someone’s home as a community volunteer is a genuine privilege. You become a witness to other people’s lives; their struggles, milestones, both good news and disappointments. You journey with the client, having the opportunity to share a unique bond with someone and their family, during the most difficult time of their lives.”
