The community oiled their bike chains and pulled on their hiking shoes on sunny Sunday May 29th in support of Hospice Georgian Triangle. After two years, the Hike & Bike was held in person beginning at the Collingwood Curling Club and raised a record-breaking $191,000.

The day of the event it was announced $176,000 was raised. The following week a team of kayakers and stand-up paddlers in Wasaga Beach fundraised another $5,000 supporting the Hike and Bike event. Since May 29, other generous donors have supported their friends and family bringing us to this incredible total.

Participants had the option of hiking or biking 6km or biking 20km through the Collingwood trail system and the shores of Georgian Bay. There were more than 350 participants and 110 volunteers.

“This year’s Hike & Bike was an incredible example of the generosity of our community,” said Dr. Michael Sharpe, Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation Board Chair and event committee Chair. “We are very grateful to the many supporters of hospice palliative care.”

The top fundraising team was Margot’s Motavators led by Margot Brandreth. Her team of family and friends had more than 100 members, raised $39,657 and received a prize from Squire John’s. The top individual fundraiser was Ian Hawkins who took home a new bike from Kamikaze.

At the finish line was music and entertainment provided by 95.1 The PeakFM and a kid’s fun zone provided by Built by Barron. All participants received a t-shirt sponsored by Darren Neil & Sons, a race pack and lunch.

The complimentary lunch for participants was generously provided by Blue Ridge Meats, COBS Bread, Boston Pizza, Sanfilippo’s Wholesale Fruits and Vegetables, Sobeys and Tim Hortons.
