Welcome to our first newsletter!
Over the past two years, there are many stories that have inspired us. Stories that demonstrate the true value of the specialised care that patients, families and caregivers receive from Hospice Georgian Triangle. We want to share these stories with you and provide our valued donor community quarterly information from Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation. The goal of this newsletter is to share updates on care and programs, success and challenges, showcase our volunteers and staff, and most importantly highlight the impact of your support.
Thank you for being part of the Hospice Georgian Triangle family. We hope you will find this newsletter informative and inspirational. We are pleased to share our experiences with you. We would not be here without the generosity of the community. We are very grateful for you!
The past two years have been challenging. It has been exceptionally difficult for patients and families during the many long lock-downs and the changing governmental regulations. Despite all the complications, our staff not only provided excellence in care but managed to increase their reach through an expansion of community programs. We are very proud of our professionals who overcome adversity and thrived during these significant challenges.
Some highlights from Hospice Georgian Triangle:
- Since inception in August 2014, 1,330 people have stayed at Campbell House
- Since April 2021:
- 243 have stayed at Campbell House including 40 respite visits
- 144 group sessions have been provided
- 915 group participants
- 1,859 community visits
- 1,155 individuals served through community programming
- Nine children and youth were supported with 52 individual sessions for grief and bereavement
- 143 virtual visits and 80 in person visits at the Palliative Pain and Symptom Management Clinic
Last September, Hospice Georgian Triangle opened a new location in downtown Collingwood which is the new home of community programs, the pain and symptom management clinic and the foundation. The need for community programs continues to increase. There has been a 54% increase in referrals for grief and bereavement counselling, notes Trish Rawn, Executive Director of Hospice Georgian Triangle.
“This space was needed to house the growing need for our community programs. We anticipate as we come out of the pandemic that this need will continue to increase,” says Rawn. “We have to keep moving forward, working together with our partners, staff, volunteers, and the community to meet the needs of palliative patients and their families.
We draw from the lessons learned during the pandemic to ensure Hospice Georgian Triangle continues to provide compassionate care and be a warm and welcoming place for patients and their families in Campbell House, on Hurontario Street, and in the community.
Thank you for your support!
