Comfort and care

when it matters most

2024 marks the 10th anniversary of Campbell House. Over the past decade approximately 1,900 patients and their families have been cared for at Campbell House all made possible thanks to the generous support of our community.

Hospice Georgian Triangle provides compassionate care in the home and at Campbell House for individuals with a life-limiting illness or in their last stages of life in The Blue Mountains, Collingwood, Clearview and Wasaga Beach. Care programs focus on the physical, emotional and mental well-being of the patient, family and caregivers, enhancing quality of life.

A dedicated pain and symptom management clinic offers help to those living with life-limiting illnesses, enhancing their ability to live as well as possible, for as long as possible.

Hospice Georgian Triangle Foundation’s purpose is to raise the funds that allow Hospice Georgian Triangle to provide exceptional hospice palliative care and community programming today and in the future.

With your help, all services are provided free of charge.

Because of you, we are able to continue to provide exceptional care. For this, we sincerely share our thanks.

Dear Friends,

The past year has been exciting and full of accomplishments at Hospice Georgian Triangle. In August 2024, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Campbell House with you, our community and valued supporters.

From April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024 , our dedicated staff and volunteers helped 262 patients and families, including 24 palliative respite care cases in Campbell House. Programs and services offered support to 1,218 clients experiencing loss or requiring palliative care support. Participation in group counselling sessions grew by 30%.

Our people continue to reach incredible heights. We are very proud of the innovations that have been accomplished this year by over 60 staff and more than 120 volunteers.

Hospice Georgian Triangle is now able to accept paediatric patients. Our clinical team is trained and ready, thanks to shared expertise from The Hospital for Sick Children, Emily’s House, and other community partners.

Since forming a partnership with local paramedics, several patients have been diverted from the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital’s emergency room to Campbell House, ensuring that patients receive the right care at the right time and alleviating hospital stays.

Hospice has successfully recruited for two new nursing positions. The first will be based in acute care in partnership with CGMH, and the second is a two-year position funded by Ontario Health. Both roles will focus on the early identification of individuals needing a palliative approach to care, ensuring they are connected to a provider, and building the capacity of our frontline providers to deliver this care.

Because of you, we are able to continue to provide exceptional care. For this, we sincerely share our thanks.

With gratitude,

The Journey

to Campbell House

In July 2014, the committee that launched Hospice Georgian Triangle in 1987 took the first tour of Campbell House. The dedicated volunteers never imagined their passion to support those at end-of-life would evolve into a state-of-the-art home for hospice palliative care.

“Absolutely amazing, incredible,” said Rev. Richard Newland, the inaugural chair of Hospice Georgian Triangle, as he stood in the homey front entrance that resembles someone’s living room. “I would have never dreamed that it would have developed into something like this.”

Campbell House was named after Audrey and Donald Campbell. The Audrey and Donald Campbell Foundation provided the lead gift of the capital campaign in 2013. The facility was fully funded by community donations.

Rebecca Wall, a founding Board member, volunteered in the early days. “They were planning into the future. The one thing that was very clear, was that a hospice-palliative-care facility was required in the community. A dedicated place for the provision of care, for people and families who did not feel prepared with the resources to die at home.”

My grandmother was transferred to Campbell House for end-of-life care on Boxing Day. Our family was still able to celebrate the holidays, visit with each other and my grandmother all while she received excellent care.

As a nurse, I have worked in the long term care and oncology settings. I have plenty of experience providing quality palliative and end-of-life care. My expectations for personal care and supportive care were high, and my experience at Campbell House exceeded my expectations.

My grandmother was cared for by kind, gentle, knowledgeable, and supportive staff. My mom and aunt were relieved of the burden of caregiving and able to be daughters. My kids, aged four and six, were able to visit and we were provided resources for grieving children. They were also provided with a goodie bag and a stuffed bear to remember her by.

The team at Campbell House allowed our family to celebrate a beautiful life and gave my grandmother a beautiful death.

Grams was moved to Campbell House after spending about two weeks in the hospital. The Campbell House staff brought her to her room and as we waited for them to get her set up, a volunteer gave us a tour.

We instantly felt welcome to make ourselves at home. The space was beautiful, there were snacks and coffee, and it was such a relief to finally be there.

Grams was so much more at peace in that room, with the comfy bed, the window with the birdhouse directly outside, the warm lighting and the space for us to display her photos. The extra Murphy bed was also a nice touch because it allowed my mom to spend the night there, which she hadn’t been able to do at the hospital.

The way a stranger can lift you up when you’re going through the worst time is truly one of the most compassionate things a person can do and I am forever grateful for my experience at Campbell House.

I will never forget one of grams’ nurses, Lisa. From the minute we arrived she took incredible care of grams and was beyond kind to our family. She took time to chat with us and didn’t ever make us feel rushed.

I had to leave Collingwood while grams was still in hospice, and when I left I knew it was going to be my last goodbye, which was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.

After saying my goodbyes, as I was leaving, I gave Lisa a hug, and with tears streaming down my face, I told her the only reason I felt I could leave was because I knew that she was going to treat grams like the amazing person she was and make sure she was as comfortable as possible. It gave me a lot of comfort and I will never forget it.

Above is one of my favourite photos of grams with my son, Llewyn, on her 99th birthday (March 9, 2023).
